NEW ANNIVERSARY THE FLAG OF THE BIERZO

The Plenum of the County Council approved the recognition of the official flag of El Bierzo on April 14, 2000. Despite initial misgivings about its design, time has shown that it was right to realize this symbology identity.
At first surprised by the presence of the Blade for its resemblance to the erasure of the previous blue and white flag. But in history there are many examples of this particular symbolic form. Shields family or Sanabria Ledesma, enforceable according to its letters had a looped or cross S. Andrew. The flags of the cities of Vigo, A Coruña, Vitoria and Tenerife also have blades. For their part, Scotland banners, Florida, Alabama, Jamaica, Tanganyika and Burundi have reeled and triangular structures. The lack of this legal recognition is more like a planned political strategy of undervalued character, that a simple legislative oblivion.
The presence of the flag berciana has a strong symbolic and identity for El Bierzo. It is a misconception that flags are used to separate us from others. Complementary identities are a reality in the twenty-first century citizen. It could be Bierzo, León, Galician, Castilian, English or European according to people and feelings. Consider important to highlight the strengthening of regional loyalties in times when spreads both individualism. People live in society, integrating en grupos familiares, vecinales, profesionales y territoriales. Nuestra bandera sirve para unir a personas en un destino común y solidario.
Por último, el uso de la bandera berciana promociona nuestro Bierzo en España, el mundo y el ciberespacio. Esta estrategia colectiva favorece nuestro prestigio territorial, desarrollo y progreso colectivo en este competitivo planeta.
